If you love contemporary interior design as much as we do. Here are some tips to achieve the perfect look in the bedroom whether it be the master or guest room.
FURNITURE
Platform beds are popular in contemporary bedrooms. An upholstered, wood, fibreglass, or metal, or low and wide base for your mattress gives that sleek aesthetic look. Most modern-day walk-in closets have drawers and shelving. Eliminating the need for a dresser in the bedroom. Be sure to bring in other furniture pieces to balance the room. A console table, desk, bench, chair, or chaise are good choices to make the space feel complete.
Two bedside tables are a must. Keep in mind an appropriate size to work with the bed you select. Standard nightstands are too high for many platform beds. The bedside tables can match or not. If they don’t match be sure they are similar in size, so they don’t look out of balance.LIGHTING
Lighting can really make a statement in a bedroom. Be creative by adding a stunning headboard feature incorporating accent lighting. This design uses extruded panels and LED lights to make a truly unique installation and a romantic glow in the evening.Consider hanging a pendant light over the bedside unit instead of taking up valuable table space with a lamp. A contemporary chandelier in the middle of the room can be a showstopper. Think about including all three types of lighting – ambient, task, and accent. How about an illuminated headboard feature wall (accent) with bedside lamps (task) and a ceiling light installation that looks like a sculptural piece of art (ambient)?
Not only are contemporary window treatments an essential aesthetic element in a contemporary bedroom, but they are also a functional requirement as well. Privacy and sun control are necessary to make any bedroom comfortable. You can use just shades in a bedroom, but custom drapes add the luxurious softness of a 5-star hotel feeling. If using shades in conjunction with drapes, then the drapes can be stationary, however, if you have drapes only, be sure they operate easily. Some contemporary options are grommet or ripple fold.ACCENTS
Art and accessories are an important part of finishing any space, however, be sure to not overdo it in the bedroom. Remember the main purpose of a bedroom is to rest, so keep it uncluttered. Use fewer, larger pieces and balance boldness with subtlety. For example, if you’ve fallen in love with a bold bed or red accent chair, then perhaps bring in neutral colored contemporary drapes and bedding. To create cohesion in the design, you can add red custom pillows to the bed, balancing that bold design element in a subtle way. If you are hanging art above the bed, select one large piece rather than multiple pieces. The width of the art should be at least 75% of the width of the bed.
